Women’s sportswear made from natural fibres
Are you looking for women’s sportswear that stretches with every move and feels as light as a second skin? With us, you’ll find sportswear that feels completely natural. The majority of the fibres used in our entire range are natural fibres – and we also rely on natural fibres in our women’s activewear. A large proportion of our products are GOTS-certified. From essential yoga pieces to comfortable loungewear for after your workout, our collection supports you in a wide range of sports.
The layering principle for your training
Sport is all about rhythm: sometimes intense and challenging, sometimes calm and meditative. To ensure your body is well supported at every stage, our women’s sportswear is designed using a layering system. This allows you to regulate your body temperature, from a sweat-inducing workout right through to the final relaxation.
- Base layers for total focus: our leggings, shirts and close-fitting tops for women sit directly against the skin. We use stretchy fibres so that you can concentrate fully on your movements, with as little chafing or constriction as possible.
- Mid-layers for warmth: After exercise, your body needs comfort and protection from the cold. Our soft long-sleeved tops and long sports trousers provide gentle warmth without trapping heat.
- Outer layers for protection: When you’re heading outdoors, our women’s sports jackets and waistcoats offer you the protection you need. They keep the wind out and retain your body heat without making you sweat under your training jacket.
Functional materials from nature: our fabrics for your sport
Sportswear isn’t necessarily made of polyester. For our activewear, we use organic cotton, TENCEL™ Lyocell and virgin wool:
| Your benefits | Care instructions | |
|---|---|---|
| Organic cotton | 100% organically grown; highly absorbent, hard-wearing and gentle on the skin, even during heavy sweating | Wash at 40 °C; retains its shape when cared for correctly |
| TENCEL™ Lyocell | Smooth, cool fibre structure; according to the manufacturer, this reduces bacterial growth on the fibre (source: Lenzing AG) and absorbs moisture well | Use the gentle wash cycle; best washed in a laundry bag |
| Virgin wool | From kbT; natural thermoregulation that cools during exercise and reliably warms during rest periods | Wool cycle or simply air it out in the fresh air |
| Elastane | Added sparingly to provide the necessary resilience; ensures that the garment retains its shape even after repeated stretching | Do not use fabric softener to preserve the elasticity |
Aesthetics in motion: designs and fits
Whilst good sportswear for women is primarily functional, it can also look stylish. That’s why, with our range of sportswear, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to colours, textures and sizes:
- Colours & textures: Choose from minimalist plain colours, softly mottled fabrics or modern patterns. Our designs are timeless and can be worn for several seasons.
- A variety of fits: We offer a wide range of cuts in sizes 36 to 48. From snug-fitting trousers or leggings for your running sessions to loose-fitting performance tops for your yoga practice, you’ll find exactly the right fit here to give you the freedom you need.
Frequently asked questions about our sportswear
Why is certified sportswear worth it?
When you’re exercising, your body is working hard: your pores open up, you breathe deeply and your clothes lie close against your skin. That’s exactly when what you wear directly against your skin matters. Functional features (e.g. for ease of care or odour control) are common in sportswear – but their composition isn’t always fully disclosed.
GOTS certification provides transparency about the path we are taking. The GOTS label guarantees that the standard’s environmental and social criteria are adhered to throughout the entire supply chain – from the certified organic cultivation of the fibres right through to processing. For you, this means: limits on harmful substances in accordance with the GOTS list of restricted substances – which are binding throughout the entire processing chain.
Is the yoga clothing also suitable for sensitive skin?
This is a subject close to our hearts: our blends of organic cotton and TENCEL™ Lyocell are often found to be comfortable against sensitive skin. The fibres are naturally smooth and soft, so they cause very little friction, even during intense asanas or long training sessions.
Is the sportswear at hessnatur vegan?
Our range of women’s sportswear offers you a wide selection of purely plant-based alternatives. Our styles, made from organic cotton and Lyocell, are produced without any animal-derived materials and are ideal for anyone who wants to embrace a vegan lifestyle in their activewear too.
At the same time, we value the unique properties of organic virgin wool, which we use in areas where it can really showcase its natural strengths – such as in warm layers for relaxation or outdoor activities. In the product descriptions for our sportswear, we always specify the materials in great detail, so that you can easily make the right choice for you.
Can I put the sportswear in the tumble dryer?
Our clear advice is this: let your sportswear breathe and give the tumble dryer a miss. Natural fibres such as organic cotton and fine wool are living materials. The intense heat and mechanical stress inside the tumble dryer can damage the delicate structure of the fibres and, over time, cause the small amount of elastane – which is so important for retaining the garment’s shape – to lose its elasticity.
How do I find the right size for my sport?
The right size for your sportswear depends on how you intend to move whilst exercising. For sports such as yoga, Pilates or working out at the gym, we recommend trousers and tops that fit close to the body. If you’re planning to go for a long-distance run or a hike outdoors, a slightly looser fit is fine. That way, you’ll have enough room to layer up with another shirt or a vest underneath, without it feeling too tight.
As our sizing is based on realistic measurements, you can usually just go by your usual ready-to-wear size. If you’re between two sizes, choose the larger one for a more comfortable fit, or the smaller one for better support.
